Safe Passages

Safe Passages Early Childhood Strategy, also known as the Oakland Early Childhood Initiative, identifies and supports children 0-5 exposed to family and community violence or at risk for exposure, in order to prevent future violent behavior and victimization. The strategy consists of four key components:

  1. Implementation of the Second Step violence prevention curriculum at early childhood education sites;
  2. Mental Health consultations;
  3. Parent-child psychotherapy; and
  4. Coordination of services and providers.
